The Cleveland Browns quarterback nightmare is back in full swing as the old veteran, Joe Flacco is benched in place of the third round pick QB Dillion Gabriel. The Browns have become synonymous with a team where QB go to die or flourish after being traded to another team.
Gabriel will make his debut on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, who hold a 2-2 record. Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced the decision to the team on Wednesday morning. The Browns will keep rookie quarterback Sheduer Sanders as the third-string option, while veteran Joe Flacco serves as Gabriel’s backup.
The change comes after a disastrous Week 4 performance in which Joe Flacco threw two interceptions during the Browns’ 10–34 loss to the Detroit Lions. Over the first four games, Cleveland’s offense has struggled mightily, ranking second-to-last in the NFL in scoring with an average of just 14 points per game.
The Browns will have to dig deep to win their next few scheduled games against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week – 6, Dolphins in week – 7 and the Patriots in week – 8. For Gabriel, the games against the Vikings will be a good litmus test that might hint at what’s to come in the next few weeks.
